Business Environments

Introduction
This component of the MSME Project was designed to support the Government of Ghana and its Development partners to improve the Business Environment in Ghana by supporting activities under the Private Sector Development Strategy (PSDS) using a Pooled Funding mechanism. Sub-projects under this component included the following;

Standardization, Certification and Accreditation
This sub-project was designed to support the reform of existing systems of standardization, certification and accreditation of conformity assessment organizations by updating and enforcing regulations in this area and provide capacity building for relevant agencies, including the Ghana Standards Board, Food and Drugs Board, and affiliated laboratories.

Improving Business Registration
This sub-project was implemented at the Registrar General’s Department. The aim was to improve the business registration process so business start-up procedures are further simplified to encourage more MSMEs to enter the formal sector. It is expected that this would increase their access to both financial and non-financial resources.

Support Private Sector Development
Under this sub-project the MSME Project is supporting the PSD-related activities of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), and providing capacity-building assistance to these MDAs to enable them effectively play their coordination and facilitation roles to support MSMEs.

Support Ghana Trade Policy
The MSME Project is supporting the implementing of activities under the Ghana Trade Policy.
